Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is an ancient form of healing from Tibet, rediscovered
in the 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk. Rei means universal intelligence,
Ki means life force energy. The word Reiki means universal life-force energy and is
based on the fact that we are in truth, energy. Reiki is a unique and highly
effective energetic technique for reducing pain and stress, therefore, increasing
the well-being of the patient, and in turn, may enhance the healing process. Reiki
is complimentary to all other modalities and has been widely used to decrease the
effects of chemo and radiation therapies as Reiki has no side effects, does not
require a certain belief and it does not have a dogma. Reiki is easy to learn and
is simple to administer.
One major difference between Reiki and many other healing systems is that Reiki
energy comes through, not from, the practitioner. Thus, the practitioner is not
generating it, they cannot be drained or harmed by generating it. This unique
feature allows practitioners to use Reiki on themselves or to help others regardless
of the state of their own personal energy. Reiki principles also state that this
universal energy is not filtered through the user's conscious or unconscious
belief systems. The energy remains pure and limitless and can find its way wherever
and however it is needed. The results of Reiki is unique for each individual and each
Reiki session differs from previous and subsequent sessions. The Reiki practitioner
does not direct the energy, but the patient "draws" the Reiki energy according to
their needs.
